Sadie Hoagland was born in Ogden, Utah and grew up reading her mother's Nancy Drew books, and rewriting fairy tales. Sadie Hoagland has a PhD in fiction from the University of Utah and an MA in Creative Writing/Fiction from UC Davis. After teaching and living in Louisiana, she moved back to Salt Lake City with her husband and two children.
