Enjoy the United Jewish Federation of Utah's new program: Chai Cinema: Jewish Film Series. Films will have themes of Jewish culture and history, Israel, and issues impacting our community. Each show will feature the film marker or someone associated with the film.
Our first film is Al Tira created by Jonathan York. Al Tira (Do Not Fear): Diary from a Nation at War is a poignant documentary by lawyer and artist Jonathan York. In a series of intimate vignettes, the film captures the daily life of Israelis during the conflict that erupted on October 7th, all compiled from footage filmed on York's iPhone during a three-week stay in the country in December 2023. The piece provides an unfiltered look into the emotional rollercoaster experienced by the people of Israel, from the funeral of a soldier to the quotidian oddities of wartime.
Each showing will feature Jonathan for a Q & A following the screening.
About Jonathan: LA Lawyer and Film Maker Jonathan York fell in love with Israel on his first trip as a curious Kindergartner. After October 7th, he felt the pull to go to Israel to do whatever he could to help. Jonathan decided to record his time in Israel to share his experiences with friends and family. After seeing the footage, they urged him to make a film. Through its deeply personal lens, the documentary ultimately leaves a lasting impression of the strength and humanity that endure in the face of grief and adversity.
